It’s funny how I’ve got more interested in history as I’ve got older; I suspect my undergraduate history degree was completely wasted on me. It takes an age to develop a historical perspective, to see things (in the present) as they really are, and to understand the past and, perhaps more importantly, what history itself is all about.
I moved away from Leicester many years ago, but am fortunate enough to have family and friends in the city and county. Leicester is the biggest city in Britain most people couldn’t place on a map, but it’s all here, from pre-modern to post-modern.
I’m embarrassed to admit it was long after I’d moved away from Leicester that I came back to visit and first stood on the Castle Mound.
